I hope you screen shot the bet/s. Those cunts (WH) have form (recently too) of refusing to honour bets. If they don't give the original odds report them to the gambling commission and send an email to the racing post (even though they probably gatekeep for the bastards)

@Gary Strodders Shank

Bookmakers are like that.
Couple of weekends ago WHill had Cork @ 66/1 to win the All-Ireland hurling championship.
I placed €25 e/w on Cork on-line.
Got that dreaded 'spinning wheel' logo as it was referred to a trader for approval.
Bet was approved but WH cut the odds on Cork from 66/1 to 33/1 immediately.
Cork were 50/1 with PP & BF at the time but were cut to 35/1 before they played their next game.

Cork are now as short as 9/2 to win that competition.

If Cork manage to win will I & the Cork hurlers be investigated?

Bookmakers make mistakes but they don't like admitting or getting caught out on their mistakes & they constantly report punters spotting their mistakes as 'suspicious betting activity'.

Pedro I agree

Betting on

Cards
Throw ins
Free kicks
Corners

It’s way too easy to manipulate to get them if the player is bent. The betting on all that must stop it’s gone too far.

Re: Paqueta Charged
It looks like he has also failed to hand over certain information that has been requested as part of the investigation which now sees him on a separate charge.

He has stated however that he surrendered his mobile phone and all the documentation he could when requested.

I guess the whole case hinges on whether he intentionally meant to get booked which will be neigh on impossible to prove.

You may even get a team of experts called to give there opinions
His defence must surely be that he is primarily a flair player being asked by his manager to track back and make tackles which is not his forte hence the bookings.

The fact that those on his home island seized upon this different different role and the shortcomings it brings (bookings) and decided to place several bets on it can in no way be attributed to him personally.

Not guilty M'lud.

Re: Paqueta Charged
Hopefully might put a stop to the betting companies allowing such bets to take place and then moaning when they don’t like what is happening.

Guess we won’t see all the info.

Be hard to prove I would think that Paqueta knew of the bets but guess depends on how many and how often bets are placed

E.g. were bets placed on every game and matches when he didn’t get booked etc?

Betting on someone like Alvarez to get booked seems easy money to me so there must be so much more to it all than we are not hearing.

Re: Paqueta Charged
This is a charge based upon the ballance of probability so would require some excellent statistician and some excellent maths. The issue is there are bets on him getting booked at a certain time from people who may be connected ( can they prove that). How many bets were made and how many failed and how many succeeded? Are there any other examples of this occurring?
The question is. Did they get lucky or is the probability too small for this to happen with Paqueta or indeed any other slightly clumsy player.

I recon they are obviously confident there’s a connection. Can they prove the ballance of probability makes him complicit?

Re: Paqueta Charged
I’ve been watching Paqueta closely since he joined us - he is the kind of player that makes it worth your while.

One of the things about his game is he really wears his heart on his sleeve; he is also highly reactive when things don’t go his way. Very often he is marked by two or even three opposition players so there is plenty of occasion for him to lose his temper, especially when officials seem to ignore what he believes are obvious fouls committed on him. Also he has been playing in a side organised in a low block, super defensive formation, so the space he makes for other players is very often under-utilised, which is further cause for his frustration and reaction.

On the other hand, I’ve never seen him behave in a way I’d interpret as deliberately seeking to receive a yellow card as charged. If there is any case to be answered here, it is by the referees who are actually making the decisions to discipline the player and the bookies who have been taking bets.

Having said that, I believe Paqueta’s career is now effectively, and tragically, over. The FA will certainly make sure it’s his case to answer not theirs - there’s too much at stake now.

Re: Paqueta Charged
Probably played his last game of professional football.

He must have had a fair inkling that this was coming which makes you wonder why he self destructed in the first leg v Leverkusen. You would have thought he would have wanted to do as much / achieve everything he could while he still had the chance or perhaps he has got a screw loose or was trying to prove that he is capable of just losing it at any moment and that his yellow cards are just ‘how he is’!?

Re: Paqueta Charged
There’s no way this is all a massive coincidence.
BUT it’ll be very difficult to prove.

Having said that, it’s not a court of law so the burden of proof is different.

Didn’t John Terry get acquitted in court but still punished by the FA?

If the FA have anything close this this amount of evidence on Paqueta his career is over. It’s the evidence of the bets, timing and connection to him by people betting that will nail him. I would anticipate the FA have ALL that info and more.

Pedro.

I believe it is an independent group of individuals, not sure how many, appointed by the Football Association. I also believe that Paqueta has until June 3rd to put forward his case. You would have thought he has been working on it since the rumours first serviced last year and has employed an army of legal representatives.

West Ham also have a strong interest in the case, approx. 85M reasons to support him. Be interesting to see how this plays out.

Wonder how the club stand with this if he’s found guilty, banned etc?

Do West Ham still have to pay his wages etc?

Just curious

Re: Paqueta Charged
I have no sympathy whatsoever for bookmakers who offer odds on every market possible and then cry foul when someone makes a few quid.

In a televised Fa cup tie between Oxford and Arsenal a year or so back they were offering odds of 8/1 on Ciaran Brown to be booked.

Brown is a full back and not particularly quick or good and was always likely to have to take one for the team which he did.
Certain people who were aware of the generous odds on offer wagered and duly collected.

One bookie who lost £1500 cried foul and tipped of the authorities who launched an enquiry lasting the best part of a year but ultimately found there was no case for Brown to answer. because he had done nothing wrong other than play his normal game including fouls and a booking

Some odds compiler had simply dropped a bollock and a few punters had took advantage some may even of been his mates but again no foul play.

The same dodgy betting matrix was used in the national league a couple of seasons back when one particular bookie was offering goalscorer odds and repeatedly offered double figures on a centre forward to score anytime when defenders were far shorter in the market.

The centre forward scored in three consecutive games in a purple patch and a fair few fans of the club he played for made a nice profit.
Again nothing dodgy just over generous odds and people taking advantage of them.

Paqueta is innocent until proven guilty as far as I am concerned
I just hope he is indeed innocent and wasn't being leaned on in any way which has happened in the past.

Not sure how much the relatives made on this but the stupidity is mind boggling
Odd bet with bookings for him and his Brazilian mate in a European league that would stand out like DOGS BALLS
Bloke is a multi millionaire, Brazil international & on the verge of going to Man City
And he probably throws it all away for a few extra quid

I'd expect the contract does include various disciplinary stuff that would cover this sort of thing. Either way, what a massive twat.
